The Awakening

Awakening [uh-wey-kuh-ning]:  the act of awakening from sleep; or a revival of interest or attention.

Since my last post in 2011, I would say my blog has been in a deep sleep or in a state of coma.  Jeannie Makeup Artistry has been providing services these past few years focusing its interests in weddings and stage makeup primarily in fitness competitions.  The women I have come in contact with have done an amazing job and it takes A LOT of self discipline and determination to get through prepping for a show. KUDDOS to my beautiful fitness clients!!

Jeannie Makeup Artistry will be going through a "revival of attention" with new and exciting plans in the works.  The website will be undergoing a fresh new look.  We will be offering some additional services to include the fitness industry.  I, myself, am an avid gym goer and have a passion for health & fitness so combining both passions of makeup artistry and fitness makes perfect sense!

Coming 2015, you'll be seeing more of Jeannie Makeup Artistry!!

A Canadian Sweetheart

I had a sweet client from Canada who got married here in San Diego last May.   We share the same passion for makeup so it was pretty cool that she chose Jeannie Makeup Artistry for her big day.  She got ready at the US Grant Hotel which held sentimental value for me since this was where my husband and I held our reception for our wedding.   It was nice to reminisce back on our special day.

Katie wanted the Bridget Bardot look.  We did a modern take on it.  We kept the thick liner and full lashes with a slight cat eye slant.  We kept the cheeks and lips soft to keep the focus on the eyes.

The Good Sister

A few months ago, I worked with a client who happened to be a writer and was having her headshots done for her book.

Drusilla Campbell has her latest book The Good Sister on pre-order.  Check out the link to her book.

We had a wonderful conversation about life while I was getting her hair and makeup done.  She asked me various questions to get to know who I was about what I've experienced; something she likes to do.  She usually gets a spark of an idea from what she hears.  She gets her inspiration from the people she meets and the stories she listens to.

It was a pleasure spending the morning with her.

Laborless Summer

As we celebrate Labor Day today, we also say "good-bye" to the care-free times of summer as we get ready for the smell of apple pies, pumpkin muffins and sipping on some Pumpkin-spiced lattes.  Autumn is soon arriving.

Well looking back at my summer, it has definitely been less work and more play as I took some time from makeup artistry to spend a summer full of various celebrations and vacation trips.  We opened up summer by celebrating my grandma's 90th birthday.  She was able to celebrate the many blessings in her life...she has birthed 12 children and has over 30 grandchildren, not to mention all the little great grandchildren we can no longer keep a count of!  How amazing it is that she can live to see her great grandchildren and still be able to enjoy their company.

Don't let her sweet face fool you, my grandma is a witty woman who has survived a rough life in the Philippines, hard labor in her 60's, and has now outlived her husband.  We may not know how many more birthdays we will be celebrating with her, but we do know that she has touched each and every one of our lives by being such a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great grandmother!

I couldn't let my grandma celebrate her birthday without getting all dolled up, now could I?

Happy 90th Birthday, grandma!

Beauty tip:  With mature skin, the tendency is to pile on the makeup to cover any signs of aging.  But actually,  the more makeup that's on, the more noticeable it will be.  Appropriate concealers and foundation stick to cover-up age spots, eyeliner applied close to the upper lash line, brush on some color onto the cheeks  and a gloss with a hint of color applied to the lips will give a more youthful look.

Makeup Monday: Twilight Saga - Eclipse

Okay if you know me, you know I ABOLUTELY LOVE the Twilight Saga!!  I am so excited to see the premiere the next installment of the Twilight series, Eclipse...I have a bunch of girlfriends who share the same passion.  Us Twi-moms are celebrating in style with a Twilight marathon, a premiere party and midnight showing.  What team are you on Team Edward or Team Jacob?

Well in celebration of the new movie, Nordstrom has come out with their second line of Twilight collections.  One of these is the Luna Twilight  makeup collection featuring palletes, lip venom, and body glow to name a few.

For about $34.00 and under, you can have a piece of Twilight and create your own vampire looks!

The palette comes full with blush, shadow and lip color.  There are a variety of sets available themed after your favorite characters from Twilight: Bella, Alice, Rosalie to name a few.

DuWop Lip Venom is a lip stain that lasts giving you that "just ate" look.

The Femme Fatale lip gloss is my personal favorite.  The variety of colors are fun offering some with shimmers and metallics.  LOVE!

The Body Glow. You can be a part of the Cullen clan when applying this product that offers a glisttening effect.

These products are now available for presale online at Nordstroms. And available in stores June 4th!

Lani & Her Gals

I remember receiving a phone call from Lani about getting her hair & makeup done for herself and two bridesmaids.  She travelled from Los Angeles to have her consultation with me with her gal pal Czarina.  The energy they both had was refreshing.  We were able to chat like we've known each other for years, and I loved that about them!!  Lani exuded elegance and warmth which fit the Old Hollywood Glam-inspired makeup we were going for.

Lani spoke kindly of her fiance.  Sort of giddy.  Like after many years of looking, she finally found the one she was waiting for.  She has lots of family living in San Diego, she couldn't resist having her wedding in the finest city. She and her fiance decided to go out typcial San Diego style and have their reception and ceremony on board the San Diego Hornblower cruising along the bay.

I had a great time spending the morning with Lani and her gals.  She is very lucky to have such beautiful and warm-hearted friends to accompany her!  Congratulations Lani & David!!!

The Look:  Lani wanted something classy.  So she opted for an Old Hollywood Glamour-inspired look.

With a strapless dress, a chignon was a perfect fit.  It's simple, and leaves interest for both the front and back view of the bride.

Lani's wedding color was a deep red.  So to keep the focus on her I applied a brick-red lipstick with thick black liner to balance the face.
